THE SEASON OF THANKSGIVING

As a kid it was the expectation of my mother that my siblings would do their best to make it home for Thanksgiving. That meant that our house would fill up with people, great food, mom’s pumpkin and coconut cream pies, and grandma’s turkey dressing. It was a time of reliving family memories, sharing family pictures, and playing our favorite card game, Rook! As Dorothy said, “there’s no place like home.” And I would add “there’s no better thing than to spend time with family.”
Psalm 100 reminds us that we should be “thankful” unto the Lord for many things, especially being able to “enter His gates with thanksgiving.” We are also to be thankful that we are His possession, His people, that we have the privilege to know and serve Him, to rejoice in His faithfulness, and always to remember that He is good and that His love is eternal.
Likewise, just like when my family got together annually for Thanksgiving, God’s family will gather together for eternity and enjoy the grandest and greatest meal of all time, occurring at the “marriage feast of the Lamb’’ (Revelation 19:6-9). From that time forward we will be with Christ and He will be with us. Our salvation will be realized, our sins removed forever, and joy and thanksgiving will rule each and every day! And an added bonus will be that we’ll see all the saints through the ages, our saved friends, and our saved family members.
I am thankful to you and to my Lord for the privilege and opportunity to serve as your association missionary! May this season of thanksgiving remind us all just how blessed we truly are!
Happy Thanksgiving,
Jack
