HISTORY:

The dream of a Southern Baptist Church in the Proctorville-Rome Area began on May 13, 1971 when the Sharon Baptist Church, Ironton, Ohio surveyed the area.  A Vacation Bible School was held on July 12-16, 1971 with a revival following during August 18-21, 1971.  Bro. Lamar O'Bryant served as the evangelist.

In 1973, with three members, a Bible study was started in the community with Sharon Baptist Church, Ironton as sponsor.  In 1975, the work was able to move into a rented building.  This new work was called Fairland Southern Baptist Chapel.  In 1977, Sharon Baptist Church purchased the present property on State Route 7 for the mission.  The two-story house was remodeled.

The Fairland Southern Baptist Church constituted on July 14, 1981 with 27 members.

In 1990, ground breaking was held for a new educational addition.  This was completed in 1996.  The mortgage was paid off in 2002.  A steeple was erected on the church in 2004.  In 2005, the church purchased four lots next to the church for parking and future growth.

During 2007, the church experienced a tragic loss when their pastor, David Price, passed away while serving the church for 20 years.

Fall 2012, the church erected a storage shed.  Also during this year, they built a shelter house for fellowship and community activities.

Darrell Roberts, author of "Total Church Life" held a week revival and study on his book in 2013.

The curb appeal of the facilities was updated during the summer of 2014.  Old scrubs were removed, exterior was painted an installation of bricks took place.

Fairland Southern Baptist Church Men's and Women's groups have been active throughout the years.  The men meet monthly with a breakfast and study.  They are sponsoring a child in Equador.  The women also meet monthly.  They promote the annual mission offerings of The Southern Baptist Convention.  Support is ago given for a ministry for Bible distribution.

In 2013, the third Saturday night is a wonderful time of sing-spiration.

The summer of 2014, the church started a ministry at the Lawrence County Fair.  Along with the gospel being shared, Bibles and water were given.  Plans are to continue with this ministry.

Fairland Southern Baptist Church has been actively involved in ministry throughout the Proctorville Area.
